With a Maryland State Highways Grant, 25,000 of
these much-needed and anticipated Biking Travel Maps will be given away
free to all who want to travel in the Mid Section of Maryland on their
Bikes. The map covers over 240 square miles from Bladensburg in the
south 14 miles north to Laurel, from Silver Spring in the west 20 miles
across to Bowie in the east.
The map will convey the" Kelly Code Color
Standards" of :Green Roads for "On-Road-Biking", Brown
"Off-Road-Biking", Yellow-"Caution-On-Road Routes" and Red-No Go-Bike
Routes". This will be the first Biking Map that a user can easily
determine by "Color Code" a safer and predictable Bike Route across this
busy corridor.
This Mid Maryland Section is located in the most
highly populated and in-need of good/better Bicycle Travel in the DC
Region. The University of Maryland with 50,000 Students/Staff is located
right in the middle of the map, along with BARC, NASA , FDA
Work-Centers, eight Metro Stations, MARC/Major Bus Lines, Connects DC
with four counties and eight major Bike Routes and hundreds of miles of
Off-Road Stream Valley Trails.
The Mid Md.
Map will be available at all Bike to Work Stations/Rest Stops on Friday
May 19 and at all the eight bike shops situated within the 240 square
miles of the map.
This map project has been a labor of love for the
CPABC Map Committee. They are very proud of their work and are
ready to share this wonderful map with all their Biking Friends.
