
CPABC Accomplishments
A list of accomplishments over the past years.
- The Bicycle/Pedestrian Total Access Bill passed both the Maryland House and Senate and was signed into law by MD Gov. Parris Glendening on May 25, 1995.
- The Children Bicycle Helment Bill passed, signed into law May 25, 1995, and implemented on October 1, 1995. This requires all children under 16 years to wear helmets.
- Successful Bicycle/Pedestrian Rally in Annapolis on Feb 12, 1995. Over 125 bicyclists braved 15 degree temperatures and 30 mph winds to gather at our statehouse to support the passage of the Bike/Ped 2000 and Helmet Bills.
- Successful GIS Mapping Procedures, initiated by Harry Cyphers with a $500 PPTC Community Grant, has produced many workable maps for all agencies in the County and for State Agencies. Harry's excellent work is very professionally done.
- CPABC worked successfully with Rene Albacete of MNCPPC to develop and install a Trail Identification System on the Anacostia Trail System.
- Worked successfully with the local police departments to develop a trail safety system to ensure that users of our trail can be better aware of their situations.
- Installed bicycle racks at Bay Sock Stadium and USDA Building in Riverdale.
- Worked successfully with State Highway Administration (SHA) Bicycle Coordinator to develop a statewide Bicycle Map.
- Bring CPABC on-line with the World Wide Web thanks to the efforts of Larry Bleau.
- Maintained our membership at 125. Printed four newsletters, set up and chaired over 30 bicycle-related meetings, attended more than 75 bicycle-related meetings throughout the year, and were a leading element in bicycle activities in Maryland.
